The teacher smiles and says, “Today, we are going to travel back in time to the 11th and 12th centuries — a very important period in Indian history. And by the end of this story, you’ll be ready to answer your exam questions easily.” She begins, “Let’s imagine a young student named Arjun who loves history. One night, he dreams that he is walking through ancient India. He sees kings, armies, temples, and scholars all around him.” Arjun looks confused and asks, “Why does everything look like it’s changing so much?” A wise old guide appears and says, “That’s because you are in a period of transition.” This is a very important exam question: Why are the 11th and 12th centuries called a period of transition? The guide explains in a simple way, “A transition means change. During this time, India saw many changes — new rulers came, new types of armies appeared, and new ideas in art, architecture, and science developed.
