The teacher smiles and explains that such an invisible world actually exists, and science has helped us discover it. The teacher begins by explaining something very important about our eyes. Our human eyes are amazing, but they have limits. They can only see objects that are above a certain size. Very tiny things are simply too small for our eyes to detect. For thousands of years, humans did not know about the existence of microscopic organisms because they could not see them. But curiosity led scientists to invent tools that could help them observe smaller objects. One of the earliest discoveries was that a curved piece of glass could make objects look bigger. This curved glass was called a lens. It was shaped like a lentil seed, thick in the middle and thin at the edges. Because of this shape, it could bend light in such a way that small objects appeared larger to our eyes.
