In the previous chapter, they had learned how to create and edit images using computers. They had learned how to crop pictures, adjust brightness, remove unwanted parts, and create collages using digital tools. Now the teacher wanted them to learn something even more exciting — how to create audio and video resources. The teacher began by explaining a new concept called multimedia. Multimedia means using more than one type of media to communicate information. Instead of using only text like in traditional books, multimedia uses a combination of text, sound, images, animation, and videos to explain ideas. For example, when students watch an educational video that includes narration, pictures, and animations, they are experiencing multimedia learning. To help the students understand this idea better, the teacher told them a small story about three classmates named Neer, Nancy, and Raima. One day in school, the students were discussing an activity they had performed the previous day about purifying water. Neer was curious and asked, “Why is this activity necessary?” Nancy replied, “It is important because clean drinking water keeps us healthy.” Just then Raima entered the classroom after being absent for several days. Her friends gathered around her because she was usually very regular in school. Neer asked gently, “Raima, you are always so punctual. Why were you absent for a whole week?” Raima replied, “I was very sick. I had diarrhoea and fever.” Nancy looked concerned and asked, “What did the doctor say?” Raima explained that the doctor told her she had fallen sick because of contaminated drinking water. He also warned that many people around the world suffer from diseases caused by polluted water every year. Neer looked worried and said, “That is really serious.” Nancy then remembered something and said, “Yesterday in class we performed an activity about water purification.” Raima felt disappointed and said, “Oh no, I missed that activity.
