By exploring "Events and Processes" through Harshali Academy, learners can connect with history beyond textbooks and prepare confidently for exams. Class 9Th Social Science (India and the Contemporary World-I) Chapter 1 EVENTS AND PROCESSES Close your eyes for a moment and imagine you are standing at the starting line of the modern world. Around you, people are shouting slogans about freedom. Some are demanding bread and rights. Some are talking about equality for workers. And somewhere else, a dangerous leader is spreading hatred and fear. This is not a movie. This is real history. This is the story of how the modern world was shaped. Today, we are going to understand three very important events that are often asked in school exams: the French Revolution, the Russian Revolution, and the rise of Nazism. These are not just chapters in your history book. They are turning points that changed the way people think about freedom, equality, power, and rights. Let us begin with the French Revolution. Today, words like liberty, equality, and freedom sound very normal. We use them in speeches, essays, and even in school debates. But these ideas were not always common. Long ago in France, society was divided into three estates. The First Estate was the clergy, the Second Estate was the nobility, and the Third Estate included common people like peasants, workers, and the middle class. The first two estates enjoyed privileges. They did not pay taxes, while the common people suffered under heavy taxes and poverty. Imagine a classroom where only two students are allowed to sit on comfortable chairs while everyone else sits on the floor and still has to pay for the classroom fan. Would that be fair? Of course not. That was the situation in France before 1789. In 1789, the people of France revolted against the monarchy of King Louis XVI. They were angry about high taxes, rising bread prices, and lack of political rights. One of the most famous events was the storming of the Bastille prison. This event symbolised the end of absolute monarchy. The revolutionaries declared the “Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen.” This document said that all men are born free and equal in rights. This idea was revolutionary. It meant that people were no longer just subjects of a king. They were citizens with rights. A very common exam question is: What were the main ideas of the French Revolution? The most important learning points in this chapter are French Revolution highlighted liberty, equality, and fraternity as core ideas., Society in pre-revolutionary France was divided into three estates with unequal privileges., The Russian Revolution focused on economic equality through socialism., Socialism advocates state or community ownership to reduce economic inequality., The rise of Nazism in Germany was fueled by economic crisis and extreme nationalism after WWI.. Students should revise these points before attempting MCQs and long-answer questions.
